04:57 pm - Jonas
I'm a Momma!

Jonas Clayton Carter
Born June 19, 2008 at 7:35am (due date June 7)
7lbs 11oz and 20.5 inches long

My labor was crazy! Here is my blog copied from myspace:

Here is a little run-down of my LONG labor:
I was induced. I got the miso to ripen my cervix around 1am on Wednesday the 18th of June. It totally threw me into labor within 1.5 hours. I was 3cm and fully effaced around 3am on Wednesday (when I got there I was 1cm and like 10% effaced). I labored all day Wednesday and only got to 5cm.
They gave me pitocin to get me dilated more...but I can't remember what time that was on Wednesday...in the early afternoon I think.
I wasn't tolerating the petocin contractions well, so around 9pm I got some IV narcotics which totally helped me to relax and feel good for a couple hours. Then those wore off and I went back into full-on, painful labor.
I was still stuck at 5cm, so at 11pm Wednesday night, John and I decided for me to get an epidural. I was exhausted and couldn't relax at all. He couldn't see me like that anymore. I couldn't stop crying. I got the epidural around midnight on Thursday. It totally worked.
By 1:15am on Thursday my water broke. I relaxed (couldn't sleep though) until around 3 am when I started feeling harsh contractions. They checked to see how dilated I was...around 7cm, so they gave me another dose of epidural to keep me relaxed.
By 5am I was fully dilated. Epidural was wearing off well. The nurse worked with me to make sure I'd be able to push properly. I could feel a LOT of pressure, so it wasn't hard to figure out how/where to push. We waited until my friend Katie got back with us since my doula had to leave for her vacation at 8:30pm on Wednesday. Katie got there a little after 6am and I pushed him out at 7:35am on Thursday.
I tore (2nd degree). I had my favorite midwife on call, which rocked!. He had to sew me up...he said that it was the best kind of tear...so that's good, I guess.
I was completely totally utterly exhausted and STARVING! I didn't sleep more than an hour or so Thursday. We had a LONG night Thursday-Friday because Jonas was throwing up old blood and mucus that he swallowed. It was hard to watch because he gagged so much and we had to use the suction thingy every time. Poor lil guy!
So by daytime on Friday we were spent....all 3 of us. Jonas wouldn't eat so the jaundice came on quick. I was discharged on Saturday and went directly with Jonas. He had to stay an extra day (extra after the 2 days that they wanted us to stay for observation for gbs since I didn't take the antibiotics) under the heat lamp thing. It was sad. I stayed with him, of course, but there wasn't enough room for John to sleep too, so I was all alone and not able to hold my son for more than 30 minutes every 3 hours. At least I got lots of sleep...I just wanted to pass the time.
Jonas was doing well with the treatment and was discharged at noon-ish on Sunday. We got to go home!!!!!!!

Jonas is perfect! He is adorable. He weighed in at 7lbs 11oz and he was 20 1/2 inches long (but he shrunk, since he had a cone head).

05:39 pm - a little pick-me-up
We just had our 34 week prenatal appointment today with the awesome guy-midwife at Kaiser. All my vitals look great. He couldn't quite tell if Jonas' head was up or down, so he got the mini ultrasound machine and sure enough, his head is down - yay! Which is a relief, since 2 weeks ago he was breech. I could kind of tell he was head down because he is so much heavier, but I wasn't sure....since I have never done this before. :)

The best part about the appointment was that we got to see Jonas in the ultrasound. We haven't seen him since January....and he has grown a LOT. He pointed out his face..his cheeks are all chubby and cute. He was being shy for a little while and putting his hand up in front of his face. Oh...and he is DEFINITELY a boy...the midwife said there is no doubt :)

Another wonderful part about the appointment was that the midwife said I am looking great. That made me feel good after feeling down about being so huge. Plus, it was nice to see all the other big pregnant ladies at the ob/gyn office. I don't feel so alone in all of this.

My Mom came to visit me all pregnant and to attend my baby shower. I had SUCH a wonderful time with her here. I wish she could stay and live in Portland. *sigh*

Anyways...Here's the run-down of her trip:

Wednesday April 9, 2008
-Slept in til 10am
-Chatted and relaxed most of the morning
-Went to Fred Meyer to get groceries, brought the doggies
-Returned home and took Jacob and Ella with us for a walk down the street to the plant nursery and got 4 cute plants
-Mom made supper while I picked up John
-Ate yummy pork chops and twice baked potatoes mmmm!
-Charles and Tam stopped by and had some supper
-John, Me, Mom, Charles and Tam all went to Mt. Scott and played in the water like little kids!
-Relaxed and watched tv (South Park and Hell's Kitchen) with Mom and John

Thursday April 10, 2008
-Red car broke on the way to taking John to work so John had to call in so we could get it fixed
-Chatted and got ready and just relaxed at the house
-John fixed Handy, the blue car
-Charles stopped by to follow John to the mechanic and bring him home
-Charles drove John, Mom and me to a greasy spoon restaurant on Hawthorne for lunch
-John took Mom and I in the blue car to pick up the repaired Red car
-Mom and I went to the Kennedy School and went to the movie "The Bucket List" and laughed and cried while we lounged in the wing-backed chair and couches
-Mom and I went to the Lloyd Center Mall and found the outfit that Mom wanted to give John for Jonas because it matched John (argyle socks and button brim hat)
-Mom didn't feel too good (probably the greasy spoon's food) so we went home and I made her some soup and we watched "Knocked Up"

Friday April 11, 2008
-John stayed home again from work - he needed sleep!
-Got ready and headed out to Cannon Beach with John, Mom and the doggies!

-We dropped Mom off at the Clackamas Town Center and John and I had our first "Birth Prep Class"

Saturday April 12, 2008
-Mom and I went to the Clackamas Town Center to do some last minute shopping for the shower (she got me a shirt to wear for the shower too!)
-Got home and rushed to get ready and head out to the baby shower at John's parents house in Oregon City with John, me, Mom, Charles, Destiny and Destiny's crazy (but adorable) puppy Miles
-Had an awesome baby shower! It was co-ed and fun - lots of food and games, great gifts and the best company a girl could ask for! (Elvis, John's Dad's dog, humped Miles outside the ENTIRE 4.5 hours we were out there. Miles was soaked! eww!)
-Stopped at the house to let the doggies out and Al and Lynne (John's parents) dropped off all of the gifts from the shower...since we had a full car
-Me, John and Mom headed to The Screen Door for supper with Al and Lynne - very yummy, unique food!
-Mom, John and I met up with John's co-worker, Jonathon, at Harvey's Comdey Club for the late show - we all had a blast and laughed a lot! It was just super uncomfortable sitting on the stools. I had to get up a lot and stretch

Sunday April 13, 2008
-Mom was up early and started cooking all the food we bought on Wednesday - Mom and I made lasagna, meatloaf, and lemon cheesecake bars. YUMM!
-Mom and I took Jacob and Ella to the Saturday Market - the weather was 70 degrees and sunny! We got a few things for Jonas and some chocolates for Mom's co-workers
-We returned home and realized how tired we were and just relaxed and watched tv with John, who was also very tired after mowing the lawn
-We ate lasagna and then went through all the gifts from the shower, removed tags and put things in the appropriate places
-Went to bed a little earlier...very tired!

Monday April 14, 2008
-Mom and I chatted and put together this awesome chicken chili recipe and put it into the slow cooker for supper.
-Eventually we got ready and headed out to Burlington Coat Factory where the Baby Depot is (where I registered). Mom got a really nice jacket, 2 pairs of shoes, and 3 pairs of nice slacks to wear to work. She got a cute shirt for Rob (my brother) since his Birthday is right around the corner. We also got a few things for Jonas' room
-Mom and I went to Applebee's for our traditional lunch. It was yummy!
-We returned home and decided to get all of Jonas' bedding (that Mom got for him) washed up so we could put it in the crib so Mom could see it all set up before she left
-While stuff was washing, Mom and I went to Fred Meyer to get pots for the plants we got on Wednesday and ended up finding a great-looking, 5' tall palm tree for Jonas' room. We, of course, were there long enough to get the super giggles and almost wet our pants from laughing so hard hahaha!
-Charles, Tam and Blair stopped by to wish Mom off
-Mom and I watched the movie "Blue State" and chatted on and off during it
-Went to bed late - I didn't want to go to sleep because then it would be Tuesday...the day she left...but I was so tired I had to

Tuesday April 15, 2008
-Got up and got ready earlier than usual (9am)
-Talked for a while and cried a little...knowing she was leaving soon.
-I took Mom out to Tom's for a good ole breakfast - SO GOOD!
-We headed to the airport...I did the $3/hour parking because I just wasn't ready to say good-buy (still not ready, really...)
-I helped her get her boarding passes and get organized for her flights
-I had to stop at the gate terminal and say good-bye for now (crying)
-We hugged as long as we could while we cried and said we'd see each other soon (since Jonas will be born in less than 2 months)
-I watched her as she got checked in, then I left
-I cried the whole way through the airport, paid my $3, still crying, got to the car, still crying, had to wait until I could control my sobbing before I drove home
-Mom called me as I was driving on the highway home - she was still crying too, but we got ourselves together and talked a little about how much fun we had and how much we look forward to her next visit

It was a great week that I wish wouldn't have ended yet.

All I can say is this: if you are close to your family - DON'T MOVE FAR AWAY FROM THEM!

08:11 am - things are looking up! :D
John and I had a great day yesterday!

First, we got to sleep in until around 9am...which is pretty good for us. Then I made some breakfast while John showered - eggs with veggies and mini potato wedges. We ate that then I quickly got dressed and went to softball practice for my friend, Kurt's, team. I will be like an extra...a sub, in case anyone can't make it. I just want the exercise and fresh air...and softball is pretty fun. Then teammates are really nice too.
While I was practicing, John took Jacob and Orion to the dog park about 100 yards away from where we were practicing. There were sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo many dogs there...it was crazy! I went and joined John, Orion and Jacob after our practice let out. We walked around some more, pets some doggies, met some crazy ones, pet some puggies, got jumped on a few times, then headed home.

Got home...I changed out of the wet clothes and exchanged Orion and Jacob for Ella and Jaga. Ella and Jaga came with us to the store where we picked up groceries. We quickly returned home and I started making food for our early supper we were having with John's parents at our new place.

We smoked a bowl, I took a shower, and we cleaned up the house a little before 4pm...

John's parents arrived around 4...we chatted, gave them the grand tour of the house/yard/garage. They said they loved it! So do we!!!! I CAN'T SAY ENOUGH HOW MUCH I LOOOOOOOOVE OUR NEW LIL HOUSE!!!!

While I finished preparing the food and getting it into the oven, we chatted and drank the champagne that they brought. We snacked on grapes, ants-on-a-log (celery with peanut butter in the groove and raisins on top), orange slices, and apple slices while we admired the gorgeous flowers and the kick ass vase that they gave us for a house-warming gift.

We ate a splended salad with spinach, baby greens, cucumbers, black olives, tomatoes, mushrooms, celery and baby broccoli. Then for the main course, we had home-made 3 cheese Manicotti that I seem to be good at making (I have made it for a few special occasions, and every time it was super yummy!!) with buttery garlic bread. It was a success!

The meal - around $25 and some labor.

Having John's parents over without being embarassed of our house - priceless.

09:22 am - clothing
i never used to have a problem finding something to wear for interviews, etc.

BUT..since i moved to portland and got rid of more than 3/4 of my clothing (and other items of value to me) to fit into the tiny escort, I HAVE NOTHING TO FUCKING WEAR!

i have horrible anxiety because i look like shit and i have two interviews today. i just want to crawl into a hole.

i wish i didn't need/want/LOVE my car so much or i'd just sell it so i wouldn't have to pay $350 loan/month, $60.60 insurance/month, $100's in gas/month.....and then all the money john puts into it too.

i need to refinance my car loan, but i need a job to do that, but i need clothing to wear to my interview to get the job, but i need money to get clothing, but i need a job to have money, but i need clothing to get a job....

yeah...horrible, winding spiral into poverty.

i hate the economy. i hate that i didn't stay in school so i'd have a better job right now. i hate that i am not good at anything except taking care of people.

i want out of this field...but with nowhere to turn. except, i can open my OWN care home...but i need money to get money, and then the spiral begins again.

yep. that's my financial life right now. not only is it terrible, john is going to have to cover my ass until i find a job that will hire a poorly dressed, non-college degree'd 26 year old. i should be happy to get offered $8/hour looking like this.
